It’s been a busy and interesting few weeks. I know that’s kinda becoming the standard intro to these posts, but that doesn’t make it less true. There is a lot of stuff happening. Since last time I’ve been working on 2 projects. One of them for One Game a Month June and the other for MolyJam 2013. (The latter will also serve as my July game.) Anyway, let’s get started!

Anywhere and Here is a very basic platformer without much to it. I wanted to get my hands dirty with graphics for once, and spent most of the time on the sprites, tilemap and backgrounds. (I know, it might that impressive, but I think I did OK. For a programmer, at least) The sprites are all based on a few good friends and myself. This did not only give me some reference points to start with, but it also gave me an excuse to look through pictures from the last two years and lose myself in memories for a while. I tried to not only match them in character, but also capture them a bit of who they are in their environments. Making graphics like this, and not to mention making them move, was actually quite interesting! I might just challenge myself more on that field in the future.

A secondary goal for this project was to practice my understanding of collision detection and gravity. With the exception of an inconsistent jump bug, it seems to work fairly smoothly. (If you can consistently reproduce it, let me know. You’ll recognize it if you see it.)

For MolyJam, I didn’t really have as much time as I would like. I lost half a day to a very persistent washing machine that had lost it’s ability to track time, and I generally had trouble with motivation the first day. I discarded a few different ideas before I finally settled on I Have Read and Agree to the Terms and Conditions. It’s a game about installing some extremely nosy software, and tries to capturing the frustrations that might be connected with it.

In the beginning it was meant to be a sort of reflection on the whole NSA scandal that’s everywhere these days, but it took a slightly different direction when I realized exactly how little time I had available. I wanted to use a few API’s I’ve never worked with before, so I decided to save that for a better situation. I’m actually really happy with how it turned out, although I still think it’s a bit too short. I might continue working on it at some point.

To my surprise, it seems people really enjoy the game. It’s coming up to 1500 plays right around now, which is insane! It’s far beyond my expectations, and I want to thank everyone who have tried it! So far, the game has been mentioned on the following sites: USgamer, KillScreen (Thanks @ludist for making me aware), Indie Statik and GamersGlobal.de.

Okay, time for some Kvasir Games stuff. We’ve submitted both our games to the Tabletop Design Deathmatch by Cards Against Humanity. We’ll get a reply within next week, so keep your fingers crossed! We are also in communications with different parties about production of Wanted: Igor, as well as working on our upcoming Kickstarter for Mussades. Oh, and talking about Kickstarter! I’ve recently pledged a bit to two projects. Both projects have now successfully been founded, and I’m looking forward to trying out both A Hat in Time and Something Different. Check them out!

Well, I think that’s it for me for now. Thanks for reading, and I’ll catch you later!
